Underwriter - Employee Benefits - Hartford, CT

With moderate to minimal supervision, the Employee Benefits Underwriter performs the underwriting, financial and service activities for complex accounts. This is a consultative role with direct client interaction using advanced financial skill sets and employee benefits knowledge to design and place insurance services and benefits.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Designing and presenting financial aspects of benefit planning strategies (funding arrangements, plan design, competitive benchmarking, employee contribution modeling and profit and loss statements)
Evaluating, determining and recommending alternative coverage, pricing options and plan design changes based on economic analysis of available plan elements consistent with client circumstances and goals and developing highly custom financial models and client reports
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree required and Insurance degree a plus

years of insurance industry experience and analytical work related to employee benefit programs within an Insurance Brokerage preferred
State Life and Health licenses required within 60 days of employment
Professional designations/certifications such as CPCU, ARM, AU and CEBS a plus
Qualified candidates must demonstrate intermediate to advanced knowledge of:
Insurance products, all lines
Bid preparation, analysis, and carrier negotiations
Funding arrangements
Claim analysis
Reinsurance marketing
Retention and reserve calculations
Terminal liability
Benefit change financial impact
Marketplace familiarity
Benchmarks
This position requires subject matter expertise in: Health Care Reform, Consumer Driven Health Plans, Government reporting requirements of benefit plans; HIPAA, FMLA, and COBRA
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to develop and present financial analysis with authority
Success developing strong carrier relationships
Proficiency in software, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
