These are rotational positions designed to offer active duty or retired military veterans the opportunity to gain technical skills and experience while working in our local data center in Hartford, CT.
The Aetna IT Technical Training Program is a 24 month rotational program targeted at earlier-in-career talent. The program is focused on 3 main tracks in the Infrastructure organization: Mainframe Engineering, Security Engineering & Data Center. Rotation tracks have been developed to provide a path for members to follow as they journey towards their final placement. The paths are intended to ensure that members are exposed to the many different skills they will need upon completion of the program. Within these tracks, all program members will be supported by rotation managers as well as senior level mentors. Rotation length can vary, but are typically 6 months long, and all program members will go through an initial onboarding orientation as well as various core trainings throughout the life of the program.
Track 1: Mainframe Engineering- Mainframe Engineer
Under direct supervision the individual will provide Systems Engineering support for z/OS Mainframe operating system and Mainframe infrastructure software products. Perform Software upgrades/support, system troubleshooting, system design/configuration, and overall technical support for Aetna's mainframe systems. Under direct supervision perform daily systems support for z/OS server platforms and related systems management software. Provide technical support to customer areas. Maintain configuration management documentation.
Fundamental Skills: Computer Savvy & System Building: Technical background and knowledge of mainframe software & hardware a plus. Knowledge of diagnostic methodologies to achieve quick and accurate problem isolation and resolution a plus. Communications Skills: Interacts effectively and positively with peers, vendors and customers supported. Some overtime required for rotational on-call pager to achieve 7x24 coverage and off shift software installs.
Track 2: Security Engineering-Security Engineer
Design, develop, implement and support a secure and reliable computing environment encompassing client/server, voice, data, and video technologies that ensure complete enterprise security and a high degree of customer satisfaction. Maintain a highly secure infrastructure through performance monitoring and efficient problem resolution processes.
Fundamental Skills: Experience with network/server/client security architecture and/or engineering. Skill with scripting and low to moderate application development work (PERL, Powershell, etc.). Familiarity and experience with a wide array of ?eneral' computing technologies such as Windows Server/Workstation, Linux & AIX, Network/Internet and Cloud services and solution providers.
Track 3a: Data Center-Hardware Engineering
Provide IT Computer Services Department with technical support in the management and operation of the computing environment through the effective use of standard monitoring tools, processes and procedures needed to achieve highly available computer services in Aetna's Mainframe, Midrange, Distributed/Server, Network and Intranet/Internet WEB environments.
Fundamental Skills: Understanding of switch technology, disk storage, mainframes, blade technology; Knowledge of Facilities and IT environmental support (space, power, cooling) for the Data Centers; Asset Inventory platform knowledge- WASP; Proficient in PC skills (Microsoft products); Crystal reporting; Ability to multi task in a fast paced continually changing environment; Effective Written and Verbal Communications.
Track 3b: Data Center- LAN/Network Analyst
Perform System Installs for physical and virtual servers for the Windows and ESX platforms. Perform System Upgrades as requested for Operating System, SQL, NetBackup, FTP, IIS, .NET. Monitor LAN Center queue and address service tickets in a timely manner. Support Mergers and Acquisitions as it relates to LAN Center Functions. Participate in annual Audits are it pertains to LAN Center Functions. Gain an understanding of the Backup and Recovery Environment utilizing Synmantec NetBackup.
Fundamental Skills: Understanding of the Windows Operating Systems(Windows 2008/Windows 2012), VMWare desired, High level understanding of Active Directory optional, Ability to multi task in a fast paced continually changing environment, Solid Customer Service Skills, Time Management, Effective Written and Verbal Communications

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
