Job Description Starting annual salary $45,000Urgent Crisis Center The Urgent Crisis Center (UCC) is a walk-in, police or ambulance psychiatric crisis stabilization program designed to triage, stabilize, and assess youth who are experiencing psychiatric crisis, and then link the youth/family to a lower level of care within the community.
This is a fast-paced environment that operates 24/7, 365 days of the year.
JOB SUMMARY The Behavior Support Specialist works under the direction of the Lead Nurse.
The primary function of this role is to create a safe and therapeutic environment in which youth and their families are supported throughout their care.
The Behavior Support Specialist encompasses strong engagement abilities to connect with youth and families in a preventative way to avoid a crisis or emergency situations.
This person monitors the program throughout the shift to serve as a therapeutic presence to the families and youth.
In times of crisis, the Behavior Support Specialist takes the lead in managing the crisis and directing personnel throughout the crisis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Functions as a crisis team lead in time of crisis and emergency situations:
coordinates staff, emergency personnel.
Maintains a therapeutic environment by connecting with families/youth, maintaining presence on the service floor, identifying any unusual or unsafe situations.
Intervenes as needed to prevent patient from harming self or others.
Coordinates support services to youth and family (dietary needs, activities).
Coordinates maintenance of a safe and healthy environment by coordinating any environment of care needs to facilities personnel.
Ensures a safe, risk free environment by utilizing knowledge of self-harm prevention.
Experience and Skills EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred; minimum of Associates degree required.
Degree in the behavioral health sciences, human services or psychology required.
EXPERIENCE 2-4 years' experience in the human service field or experience working with significant emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs.
Experience working with children in a healthcare or residential setting (preferred).
Knowledge of social emotional development of youth and adolescents Ability to engage and connect with youth.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Experience providing de-escalation techniques with people in crisis.
Organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Flexible and able to multi-task.
Cultural competency to serve targeted populations.
Bilingual skills preferred.
