Summary:
Manages and organizes all continuing education for the SPS department.
Ensures that the HHC standardized training program is utilized.
Responsible for documenting cadence and attendance, training compliance reporting, and facilitates training classes.
Observes and educates the personnel performing Sterile Processing functions.
Runs a rigorous training and development program for new SPS staff, as well as a remediation program for existing staff.
Educates employees on proper infection prevention procedures for decontamination, sterilization, storage, transportation of equipment, sterile supplies and instruments/sets utilized across HHC hospitals and surgical centers.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for facilitating training classes.
Observes and educates the personnel performing Sterile Processing functions.
Runs a rigorous training and development program for new SPS staff, as well as a remediation program for existing staff.
Ensures that strict and proper infection control procedures are followed for decontamination, sterilization, storage and transportation of equipment, and sterile supplies and instruments/sets utilized throughout the hospitals.
Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates, directs and evaluates the daily ongoing educational activities of the department staff.
Responsible for SPS Employees Orientation and Training, and ensuring compliance with Hospital Policies.
Develops in-service education programs, including hands on skills for staff.
Keeps informed of and communicates to staff current trends in sterile processing activities.
Participates in infection, safety and quality control programs.
Attends seminars, workshops, etc.
Provides routine oversight to staff to ensure established system wide policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, environmental and infection control standards are adhered to.
Coordinates the education of SPS staff for implementation new instrumentation and/or new technology.
Functions in all roles within SPS department as necessary.
Develops and maintains core competencies for staff, including evaluation of ability of staff to advance to next level (Ex:
SPS Technician 2 progressing to SPS Technician 3), and validating staff ability to perform as preceptors for newer staff.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements High School Diploma Preferred Requirements Bachelors degree preferred Experience, Licensure, Certification, Registration SPS Certification required 3
years of experience in sterile processing, with 1
years of training experience and/or process improvement leadership and implementation.
Language Skills Ability to read, write and speak English required.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements Ability to lift 40 pounds Maintain a minimum of 10 CEUs per year Knowledge of AAMI/JCAHO/AORN regulations Understanding of Lean management processes in order to utilize data to drive process improvement and create standard Demonstrate proficiency in planning and delivering education and training effectively, in compliance with AAMI/JCAHO/AORN regulations and HHC protocols.
