Summary:
This is a Project Manager position within Travelers Operation- Operations Effectiveness - Planning and Execution Office and is accountable for business delivery as well as partnering with IT for their project deliverables.
The Business Project Manager will oversee and manage the total project lifecycle of their assigned projects from initiation through implementation and warranty, including communications, training and business implementation planning as well as all SDLC components. This role may also take over projects that are already in-flight.
Minimum 5-7 years proven experience with Business process or development projects as well as those with an IT delivery component in a formal project delivery environment.
Excellent verbal, written, and collaborative skills required.
Must be able to drive progress in the face of ambiguous or changing situations.
Must be able to facilitate steering and stakeholder committees as well as ongoing project meetings
Must be able to navigate and be successful in a matrixed environment with dual reporting relationships to a Portfolio Manager as well as a PMO manager
Proven ability to manage without direct reports in a matrixed environment and influence others
Experience within a formal PMO and portfolio mgmt. is a plus
Manages, plans, and coordinates activities of projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects. Establishes work plan and multi-disciplinary staffing for each phase of project, and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel. In larger organizations may have the responsibility of managing project supervisors/leaders assigned to specific projects.
Works in collaboration with the business leads and leads project staff to deliver the appropriate work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. May manage sub-contractors and their workforce. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required. Prepares project reports for management, client, or others. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems. May be required to facilitate meetings with Sr. Business Leaders.
