Manager, Medical Underwriting (Medicare Advantage)

POSITION SUMMARY
As part of the Government Services Actuarial and Underwriting organization, the Manager, Medical Underwriting will supervise and/or lead an underwriting unit performing new business and/or renewal underwriting functions in support of stated mission and key performance metrics for Aetna's Medicare Advantage business. Underwriting Managers have supervisory responsibilities for staff.
Fundamental Components:
Supervises an underwriting team performing renewal and new business functions in support of stated mission and key performance metrics.
Develops strong unity through dynamic supervision and sharing of expertise.
Manages workflow within unit and directs changing priorities.
Identifies staffing needs and/or training issues.
Leads process improvement initiatives to improve productivity, accuracy, and/or customer service and influences tool development.
Provides superior customer service and helps develop service excellence skills for the team.
Understands, applies and explains company services, product standards, underwriting policies, strategic direction and new initiatives relative to unit's responsibilities.
Grants underwriting exceptions and financial variances within prescribed limit.
May participate in broker/customer meetings.
Works across Aetna's segments/markets to achieve goals.
Utilizes knowledge of competition and competitive position to evaluate risk and maximize profitability.
Helps set case and market strategy.
Ensures that timely actions and deliverables are met by team.
Coaches others to maximize performance and is responsible for performance development and review.
Builds strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organizations.
BACKGROUND/
Experience:
4-6 years of Medical Underwriting experience, extensive pricing experience via all types of pricing methodologies (manual, experience, blended, alternate, etc.) and funding arrangements.
Previous experience coaching and mentoring others.
Medicare Advantage experience is preferred.
Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organization and work across departments.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
EDUCATION
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Telework Specifications:
Position is open to Part-time Telework (3 days office-based). Option for telework will be evaluated after a certain period of employment.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
