Counsel Veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries regarding all benefits available through the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as non-VA benefits available through other organizations concerned with Veterans. Explains the full range of VA benefits and all related programs. Provide status updates on disability compensation claims and appeals. Explain the types of documents necessary to facilitate timely processing of claims and provides assistance in obtaining and completing such documents and forms based on the type of claim being submitted. Explain decisions made by the VA and communicate the reasons to the claimant for these decisions. Provide in-home counseling to those who are geographically isolated or physically unable to go to the VA facility Prepares technical correspondence to Veterans and their dependents providing benefit information, representation rights and response to miscellaneous inquiries. May serve as Outreach Coordinator (such as the Women's Veterans Coordinator, Minority Veterans Coordinator, Homeless Veterans Coordinator, Aging Veterans Coordinator, Ex-Prisoners of War Coordinator or Military Services Coordinator). Develops a network relationship with state and private Veteran's organizations to broaden the scope of outreach and increase community awareness of the role VA plays in being a resource to the community. Maintains extensive and comprehensive information systems relating to specialized Veteran's groups to identify opportunities for improvement. Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Responding to inquires, experience with running, managing, and producing reports; experience managing and tracking action items; experience in analysis, review, and compilation of data and characterized by knowledge and experience in the adjudication of claims and knowledge of laws and regulations related to compensation and pension. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required at the GS-11:
Applicants may substitute a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher level education leading to such a degree or LL.M, if related. OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-11 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 18 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-11. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
